Any thoughts or opinions on the best program to get some windows based software to run on a mac? I have some stuff for work that only runs on windows, but it would be beneficial if I could run it on my powerbook. I appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

You could give WINE a shot. I've used it to run several windows apps under Linux, but there are BSD, OSX and Solaris builds too. Be aware that some apps will not be fully functional or will not even run at all. All apps will run slower than natively on windows.

We use both Parallels and Boot Camp with no problems at all.

What's the issue?

@ Norm: I think he wants to run windows apps without buying windows, so those two solutions wouldn't work.

Oh, sorry, thanks 36 - we haven't liked any alternative that doesn't require the program.

I know from the buzz at their booth at MacWorld Parallels seems to be the current favorite. They had a pretty impressive demo running and besides they gave me a 128MB usb2.0 high speed flash drive so I am forever beholden to them
From what I have heard from personal testimony and reviews they seem to have the best product out there.
dash was talking about it not too long ago, mebbe ask him.

I too am interested in this as my daughter, who is in grad school, needs a laptop and wants to keep using Mac's (as do I who would buy it for her) but needs to use Windows applications on occasion.

Thanks to all that replied. Looks like parallels is my best option. It's only one program, but it's one I use all the time that I need to run on my mac. Time to dip into the professional fund. Thanks again, very helpful. Except cadc, although funny.

Doesn't Parallels require an Intel-Mac?
